I made a Spotify playlist for this mix (reluctantly joining the modern era), or you can download the whole Christmas Mix 2017 from Dropbox.

Trying to be more sustainable with birthday party "goody bags" this year, so F and I have made pink bubble-bath playdough (a mixture of bubble-bath, cornflour, coconut oil and food colouring) and popped it in some old glass jars. It'll be accompanied by little notebooks and bright pens, bubble wands (more sustainable, not entirely sustainable!) and some sweets.
A couple of Grey shrike-thrushes were fluttering around and being melodious in the garden.
The kids and their cousin have been brightening up the place.
Frances said "EEEAUGH come and look" because this little bug gave her a shock - Wildlife of Greater Brisbane tells me that it's probably a clown bug nymph, and then when it's disturbed it produces smelly defensive fluid! So don't disturb clown bugs. "Was that good spotting?" Frances asked proudly afterwards and I assured her that it was - I'd never see as many insects without my kids-eye-level spotters.
Another delightful flowering lawn plant. I actually think this one might be a native rather than a weed, just based on its looks and general vibe.
More flowering weeds from the lawn meadow.
