This curious kookaburra perched outside our kitchen window, on a perch obviously used by the previous owners as a bird feeder. He hung around for quite a while, seemingly hopeful that we would through him a bit of sausage, before flying away disappointed.

On Australia Day, while playing catch in the pool during the afternoon, we spotted these small wasps nesting on a plant by the water.
